Cebu is a long, narrow island in the central Philippines stretching about 225 km north to south. It is the country's second-largest urban hub after Manila, with Cebu City and the adjacent Mactan Island forming the main metropolitan area in the centre-east. Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) is on Mactan and connects directly to most Asian capitals. The west coast town of Moalboal is the diving and snorkelling base; Oslob in the south is famous for whale sharks; Malapascua at the northern tip is the world's most reliable thresher shark dive site; Bantayan Island off the northwest coast offers laid-back beach time. The trans-island highways are paved but mountainous in places, so allow 3–5 hours between bases.

1 Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB)

Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is the main international gateway to the Central Visayas region of the Philippines, located on a 797-hectare site in Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan Island. Opened on 27 April 1966, it is the second busiest airport in the Philippines after Manila's Ninoy Aquino. The airport serves as a hub for Philippine Airlines and an operating base for Cebu Pacific and Philippines AirAsia, connecting Cebu to major Asian cities and dozens of domestic destinations across the archipelago.
