A narrow beach with a charming historic quarter behind it — old Sino-Portuguese shophouses converted into boutique hotels and seafood restaurants. The Friday Night Walking Street is a Samui highlight.

The island's busiest and most famous beach — 7 km of white sand on the northeast coast. Hotels, beach clubs, watersports and a buzzing nightlife strip running parallel to the shore.

Shallow reef just 200 m offshore from central Chaweng, accessible by swim or kayak. Best visibility from November to April. Many dive centres in Chaweng organise half-day snorkel trips.

Five Islands (Koh Ha)

A cluster of five small rocky islets off Samui's southern coast. The surrounding reef is rich in hard corals and reef fish. Longtail boat excursions depart from Taling Ngam and Thong Krut.

Tiny island with excellent snorkelling and a small beach. Usually combined with Koh Tan on day trips from Thong Krut. Sea turtles are sometimes sighted in the surrounding waters.

Small uninhabited island 15 minutes by boat from Thong Krut pier. Clear water with healthy coral gardens and colourful reef fish. Basic beach restaurant and longtail boat trips available.

Ang Thong National Marine Park

Archipelago of 42 limestone islands northwest of Samui, designated a national park in 1980. Kayaking through sea caves, snorkelling in the emerald lagoon of Koh Mae Ko, and jungle hikes are the main draws. Day trips depart from Bo Phut pier.

Weathered granite rock formations at the southern end of Lamai Beach. Their unmistakable shapes have made them a famous Samui curiosity. A small vendors' market surrounds the site.

Khao Hua Jook Viewpoint

A central hilltop viewpoint near the island's interior crossroads, offering sweeping 360-degree views of both coastlines. Often visited by motorbike on the way between Chaweng and Nathon.

Na Muang Waterfall 1

Samui's most visited waterfall — a 20 m cascade tumbling into a natural pool suitable for swimming. A short 500 m walk through jungle from the car park. The purple-tinged rock face gives it a distinctive look.

Higher and more dramatic than Waterfall 1, reached by a 30-minute hike or ATV ride from the lower falls. Two tiers drop over 80 m through dense rainforest. Far fewer visitors than its neighbour.

High ridge viewpoint in the island's jungle interior. Walking trails and zip-line platforms are nearby. Clear days offer a panorama over Chaweng on one side and the Gulf of Thailand on the other.

Small but important Chinese Taoist shrine near Bangrak pier. Colourful dragon pillars and deity statues. The shrine serves the local Hokkien Chinese community and dates back over a century.

Small museum in Nathon presenting traditional Thai art, ceremonial objects, and Samui's cultural history. The exhibits cover fishing heritage, the role of coconut plantations, and the island's transformation into a tourist destination.

Seatran Ferry pier on Samui's north coast. Frequent vehicle and passenger ferries to Donsak pier on the mainland. Roughly 1.5 hour crossing.
Nathon Pier (Raja Ferry)

Main vehicle ferry terminal on Samui's west coast. Raja Ferry runs car ferries to Don Sak on the mainland — the main route for vehicles and backpackers.
