Koh Tao is one of the world's most popular destinations for learning to dive, and accommodation reflects that identity: affordable dive-school packages dominate, but the island also has boutique hillside resorts, yoga retreats and one of Thailand's most exclusive small-island escapes on Ko Nang Yuan. The island is small enough to walk across, but staying in the right area makes a big difference to your experience. All accommodation is accessed by ferry from Ko Samui (1.5 h), Koh Phangan (1 h) or Chumphon (2 h) — there is no airport.
