Molokai is intentionally different from the rest of Hawaii. The island community has consistently rejected large-scale resort development, keeping Molokai as the most authentic Hawaiian island. There are no high-rises, no traffic lights, and no fast-food chains. Accommodation is limited to a small hotel, vacation rentals, and a few B&Bs -- but that is exactly the point. A car is essential: there is no public transport and the island spans 61 km end to end.
