Cape Verde's islands have minimal public transport. On Sal and Boa Vista -- the two most visited islands -- local buses are rare and taxis are expensive for day trips. The best beaches, salt craters, and turtle nesting sites are scattered across rough tracks and dirt roads that only a car (or 4WD) can reach.
