- Wet autumn (September-November): coastal rainfall doubles to 80-150 mm per month, with intense thunderstorms feeding the rivers and waterfalls.
- Mistral and Tramontane: cold dry north-northwest winds in late winter and spring, especially affecting the west coast (Calvi, Ajaccio).
- Mountain effect: the central mountain spine (peaks above 2700 m) splits the island climatically — Bastia (east) is wetter year-round than Calvi (west).
- Fire season (July-September): Corsica has one of the highest wildfire frequencies in France; the maquis scrub is extremely flammable, and red-alert days close some hiking trails.
- Snow on the high peaks: Monte Cinto (2706 m) holds snow into June; the GR20 hike is generally only viable from mid-June to October.
