Frequently asked questions
Do I need a car in Cyprus?
Yes, a car is essential. Cyprus is a large island and the distances between Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos and the Troodos Mountains are substantial. Public transport exists but is infrequent and doesn't reach most tourist sites.
What side of the road do I drive on in Cyprus?
Cyprus drives on the LEFT — a legacy of British rule. This surprises many visitors from continental Europe. Take extra care at roundabouts and when pulling out of junctions, especially in the first day or two.
When should I book a rental car in Cyprus?
Book 2–3 weeks in advance for July, August and the Easter period. Cyprus is a year-round destination; winter is mild and rental prices are significantly lower outside the summer peak.
What insurance do I need in Cyprus?
CDW is strongly recommended. Road surfaces in rural areas can be rough, and driving on the left is an additional adjustment for most visitors. SCDW removes the excess entirely.
