Los Haitises National Park

Los Haitises National Park occupies a limestone karst plateau on the remote northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, established in 1976. Conical hills, sinkholes and caverns rise from dense mangrove forests along the coast, while subtropical humid forest covers the interior. The park receives around 2000 mm of rainfall annually and supports a remarkable diversity of mammals and birds, including rare endemic species. Several caves contain Taino pictograms and petroglyphs, and visitor numbers are strictly managed.
