A rental car is the best way to explore the main Faroe islands. Streymoy, Eysturoy, Vagars and Bordoy are linked by bridges and subsea tunnels, giving you road access to iconic spots like Saksun, Gasadalur and Gjogv without needing a guide. Remote trailheads -- Trollanes for the Kallur hike, Tjornuvik beach -- are only reachable by car. Mykines, Kalsoy and Sudurøy still require a ferry, but a car lets you make the most of every hour between sailings.
