May, June and September are the smart-traveller window: warm sea, comfortable temperatures, and prices about a third of August. October is fine for beach-and-culture if you can accept cooler evenings.

Best for

Beach
June to October — sea 22-27 °C, warmest in August. Beach clubs run full programme June through mid-September.
Hiking
April to mid-June and October to early November — mild 18-24 °C, salt-flat trails and Es Vedrà viewpoints at their best.
Sightseeing
April to June and September to October — Dalt Vila old town is comfortable; July-August heat plus crowds make sightseeing tiring.

Climate notes

  • Hot dry summer (June-September): 9-25 mm rain per month, highs of 28-31 °C, very dependable sunshine through the party season.
  • Mild wet winter (November-February): 50-70 mm rain per month, average air 12-15 °C — mild enough for off-season hiking and digital-nomad stays.
  • Fire season (July-September): elevated risk in the central pine forests; coastal resorts are rarely affected, but the 2010 fire that burned 90 hectares near Cala d'Hort is a reminder.
  • Sea breeze (embat): a daily afternoon onshore wind that knocks 2-3 °C off coastal heat compared to inland.
  • Low rainfall total: about 400 mm a year, one of the driest Mediterranean climates outside the Aegean.
  • Late thunderstorm season: short intense storms in September-October, sometimes with a 'gota fría' cold-drop event bringing 50-80 mm of rain in a few hours.
