Beach & Resort
Hat Sai Khao (White Sand Beach) is Koh Chang's main resort zone, lined with international mid-range hotels, beach bars, dive shops and restaurants. The wide beach has calm, shallow water ideal for families and first-time visitors. It is the most convenient base for island hopping, tour bookings and accessing the full range of services. Hat Klong Phrao, a few kilometres south, offers a similar but slightly quieter resort experience.
Jungle & Eco
Koh Chang's interior is dense national park rainforest with waterfalls, wildlife and hiking trails. Several eco-lodges and jungle bungalow camps are tucked into the hillside above the west coast road, offering forest immersion within reach of the beach. Klong Plu Waterfall, Than Mayom and the Salak Kok mangrove kayak trail are all highlights for nature-focused travellers. Staying inland means birdsong mornings and cool nights.
Backpacker & Budget
Lonely Beach (Hat Tha Nam) is the classic budget and backpacker zone on Koh Chang's southwest coast. Simple bungalows, hammock bars, reggae cafés and fire-show nights characterise this stretch. Hat Kai Bae just north has a similar laid-back feel with slightly more choice in accommodation. Both areas attract long-stay visitors and digital nomads who come for the low prices and relaxed pace.
Character & History
Bang Bao village at the island's southern tip is a unique destination — a traditional fishing community built on a wooden pier over the sea, with stilted houses now converted into seafood restaurants, dive operators and souvenir shops. Staying near Bang Bao gives access to the best dive sites, day trips to Ko Wai and Ko Mak, and sunset views from the pier. The WWII naval battle memorial and Klong Son village in the north offer historical depth.
