Maya Bay (Phi Phi Leh)
Beach
Maya Bay is a sheltered bay on Ko Phi Phi Le island in Krabi province, within Hat Noppharat Thara--Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park. The bay sits inside a natural amphitheatre formed by 100-metre limestone cliffs on three sides, with a crescent of white sand and clear turquoise water at its centre. It gained worldwide fame when it served as the filming location for the 2000 film The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The bay was closed by national park authorities in June 2018 to allow coral reef recovery, and subsequently reopened with controlled visitor access and daily limits to protect the restored ecosystem.
