Where to look
History & Old Town
Staying inside the walled Old Town of Korcula is the most atmospheric choice on the island. Stone-walled boutique hotels and apartments occupy buildings unchanged since the Venetian era, putting you steps from the Cathedral of St Mark, the Marco Polo Tower and the famous Moreska sword dance. The Old Town is traffic-free and best explored on foot.
Beach & Swimming
Lumbarda village, 6 km east of Korcula Town, has the only sandy beach on the island at Vela Przina — a rarity on the Croatian coast. Hotels and apartments here cater to families and beach lovers. The surrounding area also produces the unique Grk white wine, giving Lumbarda a distinct charm beyond just sun and sea.
Wine & Villages
The inland wine villages of Cara, Smokvica and Blato offer a completely different side of Korcula. Family-run guesthouses and apartments here provide a base for exploring the vineyards producing Posip and Grk wines, cycling the island's quiet interior roads and experiencing authentic Dalmatian village life far from the summer crowds.
Relaxed & Local
Vela Luka on the western tip of the island is the main town for those wanting a slower pace. The long sheltered bay, local tavernas, the prehistoric Vela Spila cave nearby and car ferry connections to Split make this an excellent base for independent travellers. Accommodation is simpler and more affordable than the Old Town.
