- Hot dry summer (June-September): less than 10 mm rain per month, highs of 27-30 °C, sustained meltemi cooling.
- Lowest rainfall in this part of the Aegean: about 280 mm a year, similar to Santorini.
- Strong meltemi wind: peaks late July through August; the volcanic horseshoe shape of the island gives several genuinely sheltered bays on any wind direction.
- Long swimming season: sea temperature stays above 20 °C from June through November.
- Volcanic geology: dramatic cliffs at Sarakiniko, hot springs at Adamas, and pumice beaches keep mineral-rich shallow water especially clear and warm.
- Mild winter: 13-15 °C daytime in January-February, fewer rainy days than the Ionian, more sun-hours than most of the Mediterranean.
