Preguntas frecuentes
Do I need a hire car on Lombok?
Yes, for full island exploration. Lombok is large (4,725 km2) and while tourist areas like Senggigi and Kuta Lombok have taxis and ojeks (motorcycle taxis), the remote south coast beaches, Mount Rinjani trailheads, and interior Sasak villages are best reached by hire car. The Gili Islands ferry pier at Bangsal is also easily reached with a car.
Is it safe to drive in Lombok?
Yes, with care. Roads around Senggigi, Mataram, and Kuta Lombok are well-maintained. Mountain roads toward Rinjani are steeper and narrower. Traffic drives on the left (Indonesian standard). An international driving permit (IDP) is required. Avoid driving after dark in rural areas.
Which airport serves Lombok?
Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (IATA: LOP), also called Lombok International Airport, is located in Central Lombok, approximately 40 km from Senggigi and 70 km from Kuta Lombok. Most visitors fly via Bali (DPS) on a short domestic connection; direct international flights include Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
