Climate notes
- Pronounced wet/dry monsoon: like the rest of the Lesser Sundas, Flores has a sharply defined wet season (November-April) and dry season (May-October). Dry season is among the driest in Indonesia.
- West-east contrast: Labuan Bajo (west) is significantly wetter than Maumere (east). Wet-season precipitation at Labuan Bajo (480-520 mm in Jan-Feb) is more than double Maumere's (200 mm). Both share roughly the same dry season.
- Volcanic interior: Flores is dotted with active volcanoes — Kelimutu (1639 m, three-coloured crater lakes), Egon, Lewotobi, Iya. Eruptions occur most years; Kelimutu trail closures are short and rare.
- Equatorial warmth: 26-29 °C year-round on the coast; Bajawa and the central highlands (1100 m) drop to 16-19 °C at night.
