Car rental in Kauai

Kauai has no public transport -- the Na Pali Coast, Waimea Canyon, Polihale Beach, and Hanalei Bay are only reachable by car. The island's single main road (Hwy 56/50) circles most of the coast but does not connect the north and south shores; driving from Lihue to Hanalei takes about 45 minutes and to Poipu about 25 minutes. A rental car is essential for reaching trailheads, waterfalls, and lookout points. Uber and Lyft operate on Kauai but coverage outside Lihue and Poipu is very limited.
