- Mild trade-wind climate: NE trades dominate but with reduced moisture; daytime 22-26 °C in Lanai City, slightly warmer on the coast.
- Wet winter (November-March): the limited orographic effect still raises rainfall to 50-80 mm per month; summer drops to 25-40 mm.
- Auau Channel (between Lanai, Maui and Molokai): one of the world's densest humpback whale calving grounds — December-April.
- Hurricane season (June-November, peak August-October): direct hits very rare; the small island is somewhat sheltered by Maui and Molokai when storms approach from the south.
