What to see in Maui

Slaughterhouse Beach, officially named Mokuleia Bay, is a secluded sandy beach on Maui's northwest coast near Kapalua. It lies directly east of D.T. Fleming Beach and west of Honolua Bay, tucked below sea cliffs along Route 30. The beach forms part of the Honolua-Mokuleia Bay Marine Life Conservation District, making it a protected snorkel area with coral reef and abundant fish. Access requires a short trail down the cliffs; the name derives from a former cattle slaughterhouse that once operated nearby.

The Pools of 'Ohe'o, widely known as the Seven Sacred Pools, are a series of tiered freshwater pools carved into volcanic rock within the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park. The Hawaiian name 'Ohe'o translates roughly as 'something special.' Despite the popular nickname, the gulch contains considerably more than seven pools, cascading down from the slopes of Haleakala to the sea. Access is via the end of the Hana Highway, 10 miles south of Hana town, with the Pipiwai Trail leading upstream through bamboo forest to Waimoku Falls.

Kapalua Airport, also known as Kapalua–West Maui Airport, is a small regional airport serving the upscale resort areas of West Maui. It lies five nautical miles north of Lahaina in the district of Mahinahina at an elevation of 256 feet. Most scheduled services connect to commuter airports on neighbouring Hawaiian islands, with Mokulele Airlines operating turboprop flights to Honolulu and Molokai. The short runway limits the airport to small aircraft; travellers arriving from the mainland must transfer at Kahului.

Kahului Airport is the primary gateway to Maui, situated on the island's north-central coast just east of Kahului town. In operation since 1952, it is one of the busiest airports in Hawaii and handles the vast majority of inter-island and transpacific flights serving Maui. The Honolulu to Kahului corridor ranks among the most heavily trafficked air routes in the United States. Direct mainland services connect Maui to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, and other major West Coast cities.
