Mdina — Silent City

Mdina is a fortified medieval city in the Western Region of Malta that served as the island's capital from antiquity through the medieval period. Known by the Italian names Citta Vecchia and Citta Notabile, the city has never expanded beyond its ancient walls and retains a population of only around 250. Set on a ridge in the centre of the island, its narrow Baroque and medieval streets, palaces and cathedral attract visitors who come for its atmosphere of quiet removed from the bustle of modern Malta.
